Maths tuition in Peterborough
Maths tuition in Peterborough is one of the most important investments you can make for your child, and one we’re confident we can provide for you.
We can support your child’s learning and development in this key area.
We are well-versed in helping children from many different countries, so if English is not your son or daughter’s first language or if they are new to the UK schooling system they will still benefit from our support.
Building a strong foundation
Maths is a core subject, one which takes centre-stage in all year groups.
Its importance cannot be overstated.
Becoming at the least, competent in maths is an essential requirement for students, and one which will be evidenced by a strong pass in GCSE maths.
For others, however, competent is not enough and they seek out the best maths tuition in Peterborough.
They may wish to develop their maths skills so they can continue their studies onto A-level maths and then perhaps onto further academic studies.
Whatever goals you or your child might have for their future, we’ll be here to help you.
We’ll start by assessing your child’s current maths ability and from there suggest a way forward to help them to achieve their goals.
Whatever their age and however confident (or not) they feel about maths, I’m sure we can help them to improve.
Develop reasoning skills
Children do their best maths work when they’re confident in what they know.
This knowledge comes from being able to understand and interpret what’s being asked in a question.
And this ability comes from being able to reason and analyse better. We’ve often found that children who come to us because they’re ‘stuck’ are simply unsure about a few of the key maths concepts.
Once they’ve been shown how to clarify these issues they can go on to develop those skills further, since the more they think about maths the better they become at ‘doing’ maths.
Whether it’s the basic concepts from KS1 and KS2 or the more involved maths that is introduced in KS3 or KS4, we find that all students can make great strides and improvements once they’ve found that inner desire to do better.
Studying Maths is easier than studying English
The King’s (The Cathedral) School Peterborough Academic Entrance Test
Every year over 300 (yes, three hundred) children at the start of their Autumn Year 6 term take the King’s (The Cathedral) School, Peterborough Academic Entrance Test.
For the vast majority, however, they will be disappointed, since there are only 12 places available.
This means only the very best candidates stand a chance of being admitted to the school via this route.
It’s essential, therefore, that if you’re considering this school for your child you contact us at the earliest possible stage (we suggest year 3 and no later than year 4) so we can ensure they are prepared for this.

Maths tuition for KS1 – KS4
Your child’s maths tuition will be tailored to reflect their age and which Key Stage they are in at present.
This means that if they are in KS1 or KS2 we will focus on ensuring the core concepts of maths are understood by them, in a friendly and easy to learn manner.
And for children in KS3 and KS4 we will add to and expand upon the core skills they already have so they can staircase their knowledge with confidence in preparation for taking their GCSE maths at the end of KS4.
Foundation to Higher programme
If your child is finding maths difficult we can work with them to ensure their core understanding of maths is correct and from that help them to develop a better, faster and stronger ability to work with more complex concepts.
If we’re able to begin working with them early enough there’s every possibility we can help them to move up from the Foundation tier to Higher tier, or to ensure they achieve a strong pass at Foundation level.
Functional Maths Support
For students who are taking functional maths we offer a bespoke programme that focuses specifically on this syllabus and addresses some of the often misunderstood concepts that hold many students back.
Independent School Scholarship and Grammar School maths examinations
Are you intending that your child sits entrance exams for either an independent or a grammar school?
If so, then it’s absolutely essential that they can prepared to their highest state of ability come exam day. You might also find this article about the top 30 Grammar schools a useful point of reference.
That’s why we always recommend parents contact us as early as possible so we can discuss what type of structured programme might be right for their child.
It’s easy for students to spend too much time studying the wrong parts of the syllabus.
Or they can attempt to learn techniques from books or the internet, without knowing ‘the bigger picture’ as to why those approaches may fail in the exam.
Unfortunately, this can easily result in a lower score than might be achievable.
And this may well result in failing to secure a coveted place in your target school, or not securing a scholarship place with a possible fee reduction too.
